Covered here by the band AnnenMayKantereit, this was originally a Russian folk song that was rewritten for the 1939 movie "Es war eine rauschende Ballnacht" ("The Life and Loves of Tschaikovsky") and sung by Swedish actress and singer Zarah Leander. After World War II, Zarah Leander became an icon of the gay rights movement with her ambiguous lyrics and smoky voice.
